Adding ideas in Idea Screen

To add ideas into the idea screen section:

  • Select Add new section and choose Idea Screen from your drop-down menu.

  • Title your idea screen section. The reporting dashboard uses the title you give your idea screen. Your participants will not see the name.

  • In your work area (middle of your screen), select the icon representing how you want people to see your ideas.

  • Then click โ€˜Get Startedโ€™ if you are wanting to add ideas from scratch or 'Import Ideas from a section' if you are wanting to import existing ideas from your studies idea library.

You can add your ideas one at a time, add multiple ideas at once, or add existing ideas from your idea library.

Adding Ideas One at a Time

By selecting the New Idea tile, Upsiide will open a new window to populate your idea's information.

  1. Name of your idea. This is the internal name that is shown in Reporting.

  2. The left-hand side of the Idea window is where you will add your idea content. In this example, you will click to add a picture and type in your details.

The right-hand side of your work area allows you to see what the commitment will look like to participants and what tags you have attached to this idea.

Left side of image shows Image and Description boxed, Right side shows Title

To upload stimuli, click on the image and it will bring you to the following page. From here you can add:

  • New images

  • Images from your earlier in your study or your from another study in your account

  • Images from a stock gallery

  • Video embedded from Youtube or Vimeo - simply copy and paste the URL of the video (See the FAQ for more info on adding video)

Adding multiple ideas at once

Upsiide will open the 'Add multiple ideas' window by selecting the 'From computer' tile.

Depending on the Idea Screen card style you select, you will be prompted to upload your images and/or text.

  • Images: drag and drop your files into the image window, or select the files to upload from your computer.

  • Text: Download the study file CSV file and fill it out accordingly (Step 1). Upload your completed CSV file using the Upload Edited File (Step 2).

Drag and drop files to upload

Adding Ideas from another section

Adding Ideas from another section is a quick and easy way to add Ideas that you have already used at another point in your study.

You can use feature by:

  • Selecting 'Another section' from the Import Ideas section, selecting your ideas then clicking 'Import':

Select 'Another section', the ideas you want to import and select 'Import'

Note: Idea Screen is a mobile-first feature - meaning it's optimized for screens on mobile devices (however, it is also desktop friendly).

Video FAQ

  • Will my video be able to be seen publicly?

Any video that is embedded from Youtube will be available publicly. This is great for testing existing ideas that are already available to the public. Vimeo links can be uploaded as 'unlisted', this will keep them unavailable to find but a direct link will work, which is how Upsiide uses it. You can also customize the video player to remove video title text and other on-screen data.

  • How will I keep my video confidential?

If you plan to test your innovations through the video embed, ensure you have a confidentiality agreement and name the video such that it won't be found by search engines. These videos will be sharable so it's best to err on the side of caution!

  • What is the maximum length a video can be?

Videos cannot exceed a length of 3 minutes.

  • How can I make sure respondents will be able to see video?

We suggest informing respondents in your screener that you will be showing video. This way, you can ensure your respondents are able to stream video and listen to audio. E.g.:

    • This survey contains video. Please confirm you are able to hear audio on your device and stream video content.

      • Yes

      • No [disqualify if chosen]

Using AI to generate ideas - Video

Using AI to generate ideas - Text

To use AI to generate text ideas in Upsiide simply:

  • Add 'New Section' > 'Idea Screen'

  • Choose the text layout and 'Get Started'

  • Select 'Generate with AI'

  • Select a prompt or type what you're looking to prompt

  • You can edit or ask the AI to change the answers through normal conversational language or using the prompts in-app

  • When you're happy with the suggestions simply select 'Use these ideas'

  • That's all! Your ideas will be added to your Idea Screen

Introducing your Idea Screen exercise to respondents

Before your participants start your Idea Screen exercise, we want to give them instructions on what they are going to see and what they need to do.

Here's some starter text to get you going. You can use this text as is, or you can replace words such as 'ideas' and 'new products' and make it your own.

Where to use the text: Add a Statement section type before your Idea Screen and use the text below.

Sample Idea Screen Intro Text

In the next exercise, we will show you some ideas about a new product that we are considering.

Select the "โœ“" or swipe right if it's an idea that you're interested in, or select the "X" or swipe left if you are not interested in it.

After all the ideas have been swiped right or left, a few pairs of ideas will be shown to you, and you will be asked to choose one idea from each pair that you are most interested in.

Ready? Let's go!
