How to add Custom Filters to your study (Video)
Adding filters to your study
Adding filters to your study can be useful if you're interested in analyzing data by subgroups that aren't currently available within your study dashboard. Sometimes this data exists elsewhere (customer database, data file from survey panel provider etc.) and you will need to import the filter data into your dashboard. To create filters:
Select the arrows located in the bottom left pane in either 'Create' or 'Report' view mode.
In the Export & Import Study window, navigate to the Import tab
In the Import tab, click on the Download Starter File button- this will download a CSV where you can edit your data and import filters.
Adding filter data within your Starter File (CSV.)
In your downloaded Starter File, add filters as columns with headers (this will be the title of your filter) to the right of the User IDs
You can then fill out these columns with the data you have collected
Once done inputting your filter data, click on the 'Save' icon
Re-uploading modified Starter File
Once you have modified your Starter File, click on the 'Choose' button in the Import window to upload the saved Starter File from your computer.
Click on the continue button and review your modified data in the following window. Once imported, you can start using your custom filters!
Creating filters for unselected options
If you need to filter on respondents who did not select a given option in a multi-select question, you can easily do this by copying over their data from the Questions - Responses export:
And pasting it into the Imports file:
If you have not excluded any respondents from the study (i.e. all responses for "Included in reporting? (Yes/No)" are Yes) you can paste the responses directly from the Questions - Responses file with no further data manipulation needed; the RIDs will be in the same order in both files.
If you have excluded respondents, their data will not be visible in the Questions - Responses file, and so the lists will not line up. In this case, you will need to complete the extra step of aligning the data to the correct RID using a lookup or similar function.
You can optionally edit the raw data to be more reader-friendly, like shortening column names (e.g. "Sparkling water - Selected") and changing 0s and 1s to No and Yes, respectively. This can be done in the file itself, or in the platform after uploading the data:
Removing filters from your study
Removing filters from your study can be helpful if you don't want a particular question from your study showing as a filter or you’ve added a filter by accident and need to remove it so it’s no longer visible within your dashboard.
There are two ways to remove filters from your study dashboard.
The first way to remove filters (if filters are questions within your study):
Go into 'Report' view mode. Next, click on 'Customize Report' button in the bottom left corner.
In the 'Customize Report' window, select a question section and then toggle off filters in the top left corner of each question you no longer want to appear as a filter in the dashboard.
Once you've toggled off the questions you don't want to appear as filters you can click 'Done' in the top right corner.
The second way to remove filters (if you've already loaded in filter data from outside of your study):
Select the Export & Import Arrows located in the bottom left pane in either Create or Report view mode
In the Export & Import Study window, navigate to the Import tab
In the ‘Import’ window click on the ‘Edit Imported Data’ button in the bottom left corner
Next, within the Export & Import window, click on the trash icon button beside the filter (to the right) of the filter you want to remove from the dashboard.
Note: the filter will be titled what you created as the column header in the CSV, and the corresponding answer options you outlined in that column.
Once you’ve deleted the filters you need to remove from the dashboard click on ‘Save’ and the filter will no longer show within your study dashboard.
