Conditional Formatting for Crosstabs

Quickly surface patterns, trends, and exceptions in any Storyteller table by automatically applying color, style, or icon changes based on defined rules.

Conditional formatting helps to quickly interpret values and compare across dimensions (e.g., by region, gender, or time).

What you can do

  • Choose your range: Whole table, only what’s visible after filters, or a custom range (specific questions, columns, or sections). Optionally include totals in the calculations.

  • Pick the comparison logic:

    • All vs All (find overall highs/lows)

    • One vs All (e.g., Canada vs all other countries)

    • One vs One (e.g., Q1 vs Q2)

Note: single-column tables support All vs All; multi-column tables support All vs All and One vs All.

  • Set comparison rules: Greater/Less/Equal, Between, Top/Bottom (e.g., Top 10%), group averages, and time-based rules (e.g., last 7 days).

  • Map values to colors: Define Min / Mid / Max with Auto or Manual thresholds.

  • Choose a visualization style:

    • Color scale (gradient) (default)

    • Solid fill

    • Icons (arrows, checks, flags)

    • Custom styles (font, border, background)

  • Built for big tables: Formatting scales as you scroll or paginate—no rework needed.

Why it matters

Turn dense tables into at-a-glance stories: call out the best/worst performers, isolate outliers, and compare segments with confidence—faster.

Storyteller with GPT-5

We’ve overhauled the engine behind Storyteller to make it more accurate, transparent, and, frankly, faster.

What’s improved

  • Better instruction following

Storyteller now adheres more closely to your stated objectives and cascades intent across the entire story, keeping analyses and slides aligned to your brief.

  • Stronger, evidence-backed insights

Insights now draw on more calculations and results, with findings cross-checked against multiple sources within your study.

  • More coherent narratives

Slide generation has been tuned so each slide builds on the last, producing stories with consistent themes and a clearer arc.

  • Speed optimizations

Prompts have been re-engineered for GPT-5, enabling snappier reasoning across all tasks.

  • Improved interpretability

Story summaries now include how the AI approached the analysis, and text outputs are cleaner and easier to read.

  • New charts for deliverables

Auto-include common charts like Idea Score bar charts and Quadrant charts (with all products from each Idea Screen) to speed up final decks.

Why it matters

You’ll get sharper answers, clearer logic, and presentation-ready visuals with less editing, so you can move from data to decision faster.

Getting started

  • Add conditional formatting from any Storyteller table: select your Range, Type, Rules, and Visualization- the gradient default is a great start.

  • Generate or refresh a story to benefit from the GPT-5 improvements; they apply automatically.
